17: Bourbon & B.S. During the Lockdown

Dan and J.T. are stuck at home, trying to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. They cracked open some bourbon and simply poured it over ice (we all have to make sacrifices in these trying times) and wanted to give you an update. Expect to hear more soon! In vino veritas!

16: Flim-flams, Falsehoods, and the Great Tom Collins Hoax of 1874

Once again they have returned to the interwebs: the Pickled Pair, the Drunken Duo, the Cocktail Party Congress! Dan and J.T. slosh their way through the state of inebriation to bring you a supposedly meaningful discussion on hoaxes, con-artists, and flim-flams in today’s society. The post-truth world doesn’t stand a chance against a pair of drunks with a podcast. This episode’s cocktail is the Tom Collins. In a shaker with ice, mix two ounces of gin (we recommend Old Tom Gin), one ounce of simple syrup, and one ounce of fresh lemon juice. Shake it up, strain into a collins glass with ice, top with some club soda, and finish it up with a slice of lemon to garnish.

Our apologies for being so late on this episode. Employment and law school are not friendly to our schedules. Please direct all complaints to D.J. Trump, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20500.

15: The Moscow Mueller Indictment Day News Round-Up

After months of hiding underground, on the run from the Illuminati, Dan and J.T. are back with the next episode of The Cocktail Party Congress. We’re just a few weeks into 2019, and the news cycle has been chock-full of villains, charlatans, rogues, and agents of The Man. The drunken duo have decided that it’s time to try to make some sense of it all, complete with references to early 90’s family action films. To help them out, a delicious and refreshing drink known as the Moscow Mule. You’ll need a copper mug filled with ice to which you’ll need to add 1-2 ounces of vodka (or to your preferred strength), and the juice of 1/4 of a lime. Give it a stir and then top it off with your favorite brand of ginger beer, garnish with a lime wheel, and enjoy.

14: Judicial Jabronis Drink Negronis

The Supreme Court- cornerstone of the American Republic, keepers of the Constitution. Is it safe from a couple of drunks with a podcast? Probably. Don’t let that deter you from listening in, though. On this episode of the Cocktail Party Congress, Dan and J.T. drink their way through the Judicial Branch and stagger their way into Article III, raising all sorts of questions along the way. Is the Supreme Court safe from partisanship? What power do they actually have? What exactly is this thing called treason? How does one make a negroni?

The last question is very easy to answer. You’ll need your rocks glass filled with ice, and then you’ll add 1 ounce of your favorite gin (something on the sweeter side like Old Tom Gin works great for these), 1 ounce of Campari, and 1 ounce of sweet red vermouth. Give it a stir, garnish with an orange peel, and enjoy.

We know it’s been a while since our last episode, and we’ll do our best to keep them coming. As always, we encourage you all to drink and think responsibly. In Vino Veritas!

Remembering Senator John McCain

The Cocktail Party Congress would like to raise our glasses high and offer a toast to the late Senator John McCain.

Corrective edit: Dan meant to say 81 instead of 82.

13: Erasing our Minds and Other Nonsense with guest Ben Relethford

Is today’s flood of information and news stories bombarding your senses just plain overwhelming? Having trouble sorting through it all? Well, The Cocktail Party Congress has got you covered. Dan and J.T. pay a warm welcome to our special guest, Ben Relethford of The Cartoncast, and take on the mind-numbing political illiteracy and ignorance that seems to have so many folks in a stupor of media-bludgeons over the head.

Equally mind-numbing is this episode’s featured cocktail, the Mind Eraser. For this cocktail you will need a rocks glass full of ice, two ounces of coffee liqueur, two ounces of vodka, and two ounces of club soda. Stir and enjoy.

This episode also features a SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT by Dan Caves on recent developments in life and what it means for the podcast.

And as always, drink (and think) responsibly. In Vino Veritas!

Ben Relethford is co-host of The Cartoncast and Empowered. You can find more of Ben as well as other wonderful podcasts (like The Cocktail Party Congress) on the Fancybat Podcast Network.

12: On the Punching of Nazis (featuring Winston Churchill)

The Cocktail Party Congress is back!  How should we react when liberal freedoms are exploited by illiberal ideas?  White supremacist Richard Spencer may have a proper backpfeifengesicht, but history and common sense take their seats at the table as Dan and & J.T. try to navigate this fraught topic.

Our featured cocktail for this episode is the Churchill, named for the British Prime Minister who knew a thing or two about doing violence to Nazis.  To drink along at home, combine three parts scotch whisky and one part each sweet vermouth, lime juice and triple sec over ice in a cocktail shaker.  Mix and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with an orange peel if you wish!

As always, drink (and think) responsibly.  In Vino Veritas!

11: 1st Amendment Redux – Religion in Politics with Zane Relethford (and Jesus Juice!)

Many episodes ago, your hosts skipped a whole clause of the First Amendment for good reason – to accommodate their first guest!  Fellow podcaster Zane Relethford joins Dan and J.T. to discuss the influence of religion in politics.

Zane is a vital part of the Fancybat Podcast Network, of which The Cocktail Party Congress is a proud part!  You can hear more from Zane (and many more) on The Cartoncast and Empowered!

Zane was kind enough to provide our featured cocktail: Jesus Juice!  To drink along at home, mix together equal parts red wine and Dr. Pepper on the rocks.  Dan and J.T. used a Malbec per this website’s advice, but Zane kept it sacrilicious and went with Manischewitz.

As always, please drink (and think) responsibly!  In Vino Veritas!

10: States’ Rights and Responsibilities

We’ve made it!  We’ve finished the Bill of Rights!  In this episode of the Cocktail Party Congress, Dan and J.T. have a constitutional night cap and talk about the Tenth Amendment – the good and the bad.  States’ Rights, yes, but a State’s right to do what exactly?  How can we salvage the concept as we try to grapple with America’s past?

As the States are the laboratories of mixology, Dan and J.T. each have their own featured cocktails!

J.T.’s drink is the Mint Julep.  Add some mint leaves and a glug of simple syrup into a Julep or rocks glass and muddle together.  Add 2 oz. of bourbon and crushed ice.  Stir, garnish with more mint leaves and enjoy!

Dan opted for the Rob Roy, a variant of the Manhattan using Scotch whisky as the main spirit.  Combine two parts Scotch, one part sweet vermouth and a few dashes of bitters over ice in a rocks glass.  Gently stir it up and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

As always, drink (and think) responsibly.  In Vino Veritas!
